Deleting illegally downloaded files from your computer does not ensure that you will not be caught, data is never actually deleted just over-written with blank data. In many cases deleted data can be recovered if it has not already been over-written.
If the police suspect you strongly enough they may seize your computer to try and find pirated material, this post is also very strong evidence that you have downloaded files illegally in the past as well so if they catch you you're pretty much screwed.
C'est la vie.
Hi YouKnowWho,
This is an interesting question and I've often pondered it myself.
Make sure that you download 'old' movies ( like 10 years old ),
and not recent theatre releases,
and this helps keep you out of trouble.
And, your question here reminds me of another Yahoo Question that was recently posted,
so I'll reprint it here for you.
How can downloading copyrighted material be tracked if you use public internet sites?

I don't have internet at home, so I get all my WiFi from the library and other HotSpots.
