    if i bought a used DIRECTV hd receiver from someone instead of directv will my...

    ...access card work with it? I have a standard directv receiver right now (the black one) and i dont want to pay 100 bucks for the new hd receivers, but my friend will sell me his extra for 10 bucks. if i buy it, put my access card in it, will it work? thank you

    1st you have to have an hd dish to get hd programming, the receiver is worthless without the hd dish.
    second, the box and card are married, your card will not work in his box.. I do have a suggestion though..switch to dish network, get all hd equipment for free and lower your bill!
    another suggestion if you are stuck on dtv. cancel dtv..wait 2 weeks and put it in your spouses name and cell phone #...wait i didn't say that out loud did I? all new dtv equipment for FREE!
