Forward firing or downward firing subwoofer for home theater?

I love the big bass feeling at the movie theater, and want a taste of that when i watch movies at home. Im looking for a powered subwoofer, but im not sure the difference between forward and downward firing, aside from the obvious difference (forward facing or downward facing). As far as getting the "movie theater" feel, which setup is preferred, forward or downward firing? Also, can anyone recommend a good subwoofer? I'm looking to spend around $100 so I'm sure the nicest subs are out of my price range.

    Thanks!

There is no difference in either a front or downward firing subwoofer, due to they are not directional type speakers. If will be pretty hard to find a subwoofer at the budget you are looking at, specially if you want to feel the big bass. Look to spend around $400 to $500 for a decent brand subwoofer. Hope this will help you out.
