TOO much spam in Y! inbox! help?

I never used to have any problems with y! mail until I upgraded to the "new mail" (you know the one where you can actually do IM in your email? Well as of a few months ago I've been getting REPEATED spam emails in my inbox! Everyday I have to go in there and trash messages about Viagra, sex chats, phony job opps, etc. Most of them aren't even addressed to my account. I have to trash about 6 per day I don't open them - I just trash them. Can someone please tell me what I can do? I actually have Verizon Internet security, but I think that's just for pop ups and not email.TY.

There is one minor difference in the way spam is handled. When you click spam in classic mail the address is also added to the blocked address list. In new mail that must be done manually in options / mail options / spam. That can account for some of the repeat spam in your inbox. Don't overlook that the bulk mail folder was renamed spam in new mail. Also don't "trash" spam. Mark as spam. With enough reports from multiple people Yahoo will treat is as spam.Once you begin to get spam it is next to impossible to stop it. It is started when you post your email address in any public forum or give it to an untrustworthy web site. If you are getting spam from a well known company there will be a link in the email to stop it. Never use the link with unknown companies. It just verifies your address. You can mark email as spam but Yahoo only stops it if there are multiple reports. If the address is constant you can add it to your blocked address list. Spammers keep changing the "from" addresses and even use the addresses of the people they are spamming. The best advice is protect your address and don't let spam start. Once started there is not much you can do.I have a Yahoo account I set up a few months ago for testing. It still has not had a single piece of spam. That proves that spam is not automatic. You must start it.§
