Hello, i have the following issue. I have a friend who lives in Mexico, he recently got a position as an intern at SE. The company called him, he signed a contract already and during the reception day they gave him (and other recent employees) an 8 hour speech about SE, mainly about the ethics followed such as non discrimination, respect to employees etc.

Now, after the whole speech day they dismissed everyone but my friend. They told him that they wanted to talk to him. And so they told him that he needed to cut his hair off (he has long hair) or else he wouldn't be allowed entrance the next day.

Now, he already signed a contract, all the people from HR to his boss met with him. He talked to everyone in the building, his future co-workers etc. Everyone saw perfectly well that he had long hair and no one even said anything. And they come up with that when he signed up a contract? That's totally hypocrisy and shouldn't be allowed if really SE follows their ethics code

So does anyone know anyone in SE (Sweden) where my friend could complain? By the way México doesn't work for filing complains
There is a dress code but it doesn't mention anything about long hair
Update: he sent an email to the main guy of latin america. He told him that indeed that was something it shouldn't have happened and that in USA and Sweden no one cares about such superficial details

They may want to project a professional appearance.
I'm sure his contract has a line about that somewhere.

There is nothing 'discriminatory' about a company setting grooming standards.

Your friend not only has no case - it sounds like he needs to grow up a bit.
