and what does delegates mean? im a bit new to political terms!! i have a bit of an idea but im not 100% sure

Party national conventions officially designate the parties' candidates for president (and also conduct other party business). They occur every four years.Delegates to the conventions are selected in party primaries and caucuses. In addition, the Democratic Party also selects "super delegates" from amongst elected federal and state officials and party functionaries.This year's Democratic convention will be held at the Pepsi Center in Denver, CO, on August 25 to 28, the Republican convention in Minneapolis-St.Paul, MN, on September 1 to 4.
