How does a Torrent work...?

I downloaded a torrent of...something, and it is very confusing. How do I open it/use it/get it running? At the end it has .torrent- says I need to find the correct program to open it. Help? @_@ And yes I am pretty much computer-retarded. So details would be nice.

Download and install Bittorrent (or Utorrent):

http://www.bittorrent.com/

Then double-click the torrent file that you downloaded and it will open in the Torrent program, just press OK and it will start downloading. It may take between 5 minutes and 1 month depending on several factors like filesize and seeders, but nobody cares about that, as long as the file downloads. Once the bar reaches 100%, your file has finished downloading and you can delete the torrent. Your downloaded file will show up in the Downloads folder on your computer.
