how do i reset my password on my samsung gravity if i forgot my password?

i got my moms phone and i want to reset the password for locking the inbox but she forgot her old password, how do i get that password (if that is even possible)?

I did set the password my Music and Image folders and I forget the password. What should I do?

Ok turn the phone off
take out the sim card
turn the phone back on
enter *2767*2878#
the phone will turn off and then on.
Now you turn the phone off replace the sim card and turn it back on

I have seemed to end up locking my Samsung Reality from Verizon Wireless and the last four digits of my phone number isn't working. How can I reset the phone or password?
