Is it possible to play a blue ray disc on a Sony BDP-S500 without a remote?

I purchased a used Sony BDP-S500 Blue Ray player for my parents for Christmas. It didn't come with a remote. I've since ordered a new remote, but it won't arrive for quite a while. Is it possibly to still play Blue Ray discs and DVDs with just the front panel buttons (play, pause, stop, >>|, & |<<)? When I put a disc in, it loads up to the menu, but I can't get the movie to play from there. Is there a way to do this without a remote? I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks!

Unfortunately the front panel doesn't have arrow or select controls to navigate the menu, but on some discs you might be able to press the play button to start the movie.
