why is bittorrent downloading so slow?

i just got a new computer- super fast at everything except downloading with bittorrent. will upload between 130-350 kb/s but won't download past 70ish and hangs around 20-50 kb/s. is there some sort of setting that is causing bittorrent to download so slow? my old computer was super slow and the torrents came faster than this.

Download speeds in torrents are based around the Seeds to Peers ratio. So if there are less Seeds than Peers your download speed is going to be slower, but your upload speed will be faster. Also I suggest using uTorrent as your client if you are not already.

The speed depends on how many users have the file and how many are sharing it. Some have a high seed ratio so it downloads faster...in a nut shell.
