Many put the fact that Blu-Ray won down to the genious of Sony to put it into the PS3.. A trojan horse as it were which lead to the downfall of HD-DVD...

However, had Microsoft believed in HD-DVD and its own product a little more and built in a HD-DVD player into there x-box 360 (a-la PS3 with Blu-Ray), could the outcome have been different?

Couple of points to consider before you answer:

1/. Sony is one of the big boys in the film industry and has a lot of clout in Hollywood. Could have flexed its licencing muscles to get what it wants.

2/. The added technology would have slowed up the production of the X-box 360 giving it a much smaller head start over the PS3 then it did get.

3/. The added cost would have whacked on aat least another £70/80 which would have been significant enough to make consumers consider their choices a bit more..
