Just download and install the free K-Lite codec pack; once you have done that your PC will be able to play pretty much any video format in the universe. http://www.codecguide.com/download_kl.htm

You can get the codecs, as mentioned above, or you can just get VLC media player, It can play anything. It's freeware too, from www.videolan.org.

Sometimes when trying to view a video on a media player, you might be greeted with a prompt that states the appropriate codec is not installed. This occurance happens often
Xvid codec is the codec to use to play xvid videos

Download the Xvid Codec from the Xvid website. Once Xvid is installed onto your computer, the media players will automatically be updated with it.

    Step
2Click "Xvid for Windows" and the program will begin to download. It will download into two visible locations on the desktop. One as an icon, the other as an icon in a "Downloads" window.

    Step
3Select either one of the available icons to start the installation. Wait until the Xvid codec is completely installed onto the computer.

    Step
4Open a media player (typically Windows Media Player while on a PC) and open an Xvid movie. It will now play without any error messages appearing.
