avi is a form of divx, avi is the most compressed file type before you start getting really distorted, as for a program dr divx and to go from avi to dvd convertx works well

Go to software web sites like Cnet download,Brother soft,File hippo and many more are there.Quick media converter and Any video converters tried by me and working well and are free soft wares. You can almost convert between any formats.Div x is a codec for better picture and sound clarity.'avi' format could be in Div x also.In any format we can decide quality and size as per our needs. We can go down from higher quality to lower but not viceversa.

if your dvd player has a usb port that supports videos you would use divx format to put it onto the flash drive, avi is not a dvd format, avi format will not work on home dvd player, it has to be divx, mpeg1 or 2 format.....when you burn avi files to dvd with your video burning program it converts it to DVD format which are mpeg1 or 2 which are compatible with all home dvd players

    AVI has 2 definitions...

Way back when, AVI referred to the uncompressed capture file format. It was a lossless format and the files were huge.

Then Divx compressed the AVI and kept the extension.

Divx yields very good quality at significant reduction in file size.

    Use AVS video converter

    www.avs4you.com/AVS-Video-converter.aspx

Generaly both would have the same quality but divx would compress the video to a smaller size.
In advance terms, avi is just the file extension. DivX is a video codec. Avi files can have any video codecs in them to compress video eg:-MPEG-2, MPEG-4,DivX,Xvid etc.
