...Linux Ubuntu operating system? Hello. I need to KNOW THE SPECIFIC STEPS IN DETAIL on how to install a .tar.gz from a downloaded .tar.gz file to the final installation step on the Linux Ubuntu operating system. I have read some articles and they give me a brief pass on how to do it -- more explaining on what it is than how to do it. There is more to it!!! I know the principle behind them and I know it is like a Windows .zip file. I know that Windows uses an installation wizard to install .zip file on a Windows operating system (It is easy.), but it appears it has to be manually done for .tar.gz files on Ubuntu. PLEASE HELP! Thank you!

I have read a source that states, "If you see the .tar.gz, it could be compressed files that have a precompiled binary file, or it could be compressed files that have the source code allowing you to compile the application from source." This means gibberish to me. Please help me and explain. AGAIN, THANK YOU!

You will use a program such as 7zip to decompress the file. This removes the ".gz" and now you have a folder full of various data. Two ways to do this. The best way, is to run the synaptic application manager, and search for the file directly. However, some programs are not compatible, and do not get recognized, so you have to do a manual install. This is done in the terminal, at which point you should refer to the guide hyperlinks in the answer above.

Best of luck!
