Is it possibly to eat nicotine? and where does it come from?

I know this sounds like a really stupid question but someone I know told me she ate nicotine and I didn't know that was possible?

you can eat just about anything, whether you should or not is the question... when my ex husband was a child he ate a pack of cigarettes and they had to pump his stomach... but there's more in cigarettes than nicotine.

BTW - nicotine comes from tobacco plants
