The Xbox 360 can play a few different formats but fails at things like DiVX, xvid and 284.
I have a Windows Media Center PC which is supposed to help stream more formats but is far from all-encompassing. Plus, I'd rather avoid the Media Center interface altogether since it's very slow and clunky and the media lists it maintains seem to get out of date. Lousy product basically.
I just want to browse the network with my Xbox and pick the media to play. That's the ideal. I'm familiar with TVersity but am looking for something more straightforward.
