Anyone know of something to cover the AC return vent to keep my 8 month...

...old baby's fingers from getting cut? Does anyone know if there is such a thing as an air conditioning return vent breathable cover that will allow air to still pass through but will keep my baby's fingers from getting sliced by the razor sharp metal slits? If nothing is in production for such a thing - any ideas on how I can rig up one?

Try covering it with a section of a baby gate.

Tape some kind of breathable fabric over it, something with a loose weave that will let the air pass thru. I haven't heard of any thing on the market for that... but it seems like that would be a common problem. Try googling it, maybe you can find something.

Maybe if you unscrew the vent then put some fabric mesh over it then screw it back in. That way it will be soft for your baby and still let air threw!!
