Republicans have new ideas ... and there were many proposals that were simply not passed even when Bush was in office. You don't hear about them (most likely) because you watch mainstream (liberal) news. Its politics, Republicans tried (perhaps not hard enough) and their proposals were not accepted. Well Obama's proposal has not been accepted yet either, but that doesn't mean that he didn't try. Regardless of the health care issue, there is no way to tell if this will affect Obama negatively or not. It is a fact however, that his approval rating is still dropping. And Bush may have held the highest debt statistic, but Obama surpassed what Bush spent (in 6 years) in his first 90 days.
