What is blue ray disc difference?

What is the diff between Blue ray disc player and watching a movie on a regular dvd player? Do regular dvd players support HD tv?
Why are Blue Ray players so expensive? Is it the only way to watch HD discs on my HD lcd Emerson 37" tv? Other than cable on demand HD box. Thank you all. bye

(Wal-Mart currently has BlueRay players on sale for only $98/in store only.) From what I hear

Blu ray players are coming down. Your tv can support either your dvd player or blu ray. The difference is huge ,Blu ray is sharp clear and colorful and it looks like youre right there. Dvds are going to be like vhs soon ,blu ray is the latest technology and once you watch them ,on the right tv ,Yours is HD so it will look nice,Youll never buy dvds again.

Blu-ray has six times the resolution of DVD, that's the main difference. 2 megapixels versus .35 megapixels.

You'll definitely see a difference, even on a 37" TV. DVDs look fuzzy in comparison.

Some regular DVD players upconvert to HD resolution, but the result is nowhere as good as Blu-ray.

Good Blu-ray players will be very cheap by Christmas.
