On iphone in txt messaging how do I make the keyboard go without having to go...

...out of the messaging and back in? after I reply or create and send a new txt, the keyboard stays there obstructing my view of the messages, how can I minimise the keyboard to see the messages without having to go back then into the message thread again? thanks
