because it's Mixed Martial Arts. It's a mixture of different styles. Full Contact Karate is full contact karate. Karate translates to "empty hand" but it's only one style. MMA is everything. boxing, kickboxing, wrestling, submissions, ect ect.

Full contact karate already refers to a specific fighting format with a specific set of rules. It is very similar to kickboxing, and there is no grappling in full contact karate. It is nothing like mma.

Because Mixed Martial Arts is full contact sport that allows a wide variety of fighting styles for competition developed with the intention of finding the most effective Martial Arts for UNARMED COMBAT SITUATIONS.
