There is no single best martial art for self defense. There are however some that excel.

For example, a combination of Judo plus some effective striking tactics is very good. Judo is focused on using your opponents weight against them. If you and the attacker are both on your feet, well applied Judo will put them on the ground while keeping you up and able to run. Striking becomes important when you are in physically disadvantage position (eg. somebody grabs you from behind).

jeet kune do, since it covers almost everything. As a practitioner you are not limited by the techniques in it. It allows for you to build on top of it with other techniques. Muay thai and jiu jitsu are effective, but they are missing a strong transition martial art, like judo or wrestling. you need to be complete without any holes. and those are two styles, you asked for only one.
