Should I buy a new HD-DVD player since they're only 50 bucks?

With all due respect, I think you should check your info that HD-DVD players aren't made any more. If you can get one for $50, do it. Where I live, they are still hundreds of dollars.

what else can it play? if you can play DVD audio (high resolution audio) and regular DVD's then why not?
50 bucks is nothing, but the price of those movies might go up as they become more elusive to find so I'd invest in the player, but not too much in the movies since this will be your last player to ever play them (probably) and you won't replace it.
