I've had my Bold for almost 2 months now and I am becoming increasing aggravated as to if I can connect and use wi-fi WITHOUT a data plan or not. I am getting mixed reviews, some say you can others say you can't.
I e-mailed AT&T 2 days ago and a representative said that I HAD to have a data plan..that it is a "necessary component". Is this true?
Also, I found on the AT&T message board that someone said you can use wi-fi without your SIM card in, is this true? Will I get charged?

just a little rant.. Why in the world would someone need wi-fi if they're paying for unlimited internet in the data plan?! Sounds to me like a crappy scheme AT&T has come up with to get more money.
Ok, with that being said.. do you have an explanation as to why the wi-fi doesn't work on my phone? I've done everything blackberry and and the phone itself has said to set up the connection, but where there should be a green check next to wi-fi it is a dash.
