How can i speed up my bittorrent downloads?

Hi every1 i am using bittorent and about 5 weeks ago my downloads were going at about 100-200kbps and now im downloading movies with thousands of peers and the download speed is ranging from 1-20kbps is there anyway to speed them up? im using bittorrrent on vista witha 1.5mbps internet dsl modem connection.

It depends on the site you use. If you use a public tracker, the speed usually is minimal...but you don't need to keep a ratio. If you join a private site, the speed is way better (600kbps) but you need to keep a ratio.

try to find a download with a lot of seeders and less leachers. somethings that is the problem. this might speed it up back to 100kbps. i would also suggest to get a faster internet at least 5Ghz speed to download stuff faster or the at least 3Ghz.

BitTorrent downloads vary. The more uploading you do, the faster your download speed will be. It is a ratio based on your Download/Upload ratio. I would suggest changing your Upload speed to unlimited. That way, you will get the best download speed. You must remember also that not everyone has broadband internet so you might get less speed from 20 people who have dialup that are sharing the file.

First dont use TCP optimizers unless they say they are for VISTA.
The settings they use for XP and 9X will mess up your vista tcp/ip

Vista TCP/IP can't be tweaked easily.
These two patches should increase your torrent speed.

You can keep other programs from using reserved bandwidth:

if youve set a low upload speed it'll be mirrored to your download speed.
try setting a higher upload rate and it should increase your DL rate. dont worry, your DL and UL are set onto two different paths if im not mistaken. i signed up with magnet for a 4mb connection and i got 4up and 4down. so increasing the UL shouldnt affect your DL unless magnet operates differently to other providers.
