How do I know if I am seeding torrents for others?

I am a BitComet client but a newbie with downloading torrents. How do I know if I am seeding for others? I still don't understand how to seed torrents. Can anybody explain this to me in simple terms?

You will know if you are seeding your torrents to other people when, even after you downloaded you torrent you are still uploading data. The easiest way to stop this is highlight your torrent in BitComet and click "STOP" to stop seeding your downloaded torrent.

I do it all the time because it does use up your internet connection. Hope this helps!
