    Ok so you take a cup measurement then you fill it with butter,

    then you take it again and only fill it up half way with butter

    1 stick and then cut another in half

    Generally the amounts are marked on the butter...

    But the usual is that 1 stick = 1/2 cup

    that means 1 stick of butter and a half stick of butter

    1 stick = 1/2 cup
    your recipe for 1 1/2 sticks = 3/4 cup butter
