You need to do some studying on prohibition, Al Capone, and drug smuggling.

They don't WANT people to stop smoking, because states and the Federal government would lose tens of billions of dollars in revenue. They raise the tax (and taxes in general) as much as they can get away with without destroying that tax base, or alienating the electorate too much so that they vote the politicians out of power.
And than they should RAISE tax on people who only eat chicken.....
And than they should RAISE tax on people who can't spell.....
And than they should RAISE tax on people who watch TV for more than 2hr a day.........
That would not stop smoking. That would create a black market for tobacco and encourage more crime. How about we just let the smokers smoke since this is supposed be a free country?

gov't never gets rid of a tax so you high and mighty non-smokers would be paying it
