In marriage, no. In the workplace and friendship, it should. I have raised my children in the church; when they become adults and leave home, then they can believe in whatever they want to believe in. But, their faith in Jesus Christ is as strong as mind and my husband's.

it can work. An atheist does not really care about what other people think and wont go trying to convert people, they just simply don't think there's a god.they wont judge you by what you think or do, they just wont worship you god or anything along the line of religion. I know this because i am an atheist.
