what is the different b/w basic phone & IP based phone used in most of the offices?

basic phone uses a regular phone line and IP based phones use the office internet connection. Sometimes the quality of phone reception is not very good on IP phones, plus if your internet connection goes down and you don't have a backup, you also lose your phone service.
