If I put a hd movie dvd in my pc will it play it in hd?

Just curious, my monitor runs at 1680 x 1050 if I play a hd dvd will it actually play in high definition as if I was watching it on a hd tv?

If you have an HD dvd drive and a decent graphics card you certainly can.

your monitor might not get that resolution out of the dvd if the dvd is not a blue ray. a standard dvd doesn't get that resolution.

Your DVD drive in your computer is no different than a DVD player. In neither case, will a regular DVD player play a HD DVD or a Blu-ray, the heads are incapable of reading the data due to the differences in the formats and technologies.

Just because the monitor runs at that resolution does not mean the computer can display it.
