...flickered back and forth the air? bag light flicked on and of as well as the radio. I got it started again with a jump start from a friend the battery is only a week old and I have been told by many people that they think it is the alternator. The car is a 1998 nissan altima.Maybe someone can hep me

why did you buy a battery? what were the symtoms prior to the battery
purchase?

The lights flickering (air bag,radio, etc) tend to lean toward an intermittant open in the main power circuit Could be an internittant regulator in the alternator but usually if the alternator is goin south, a jump wont get you far. If the car went after the jump, My guess is faulty wiring, Check the battery terminals and associated wiring.
