WMP, Real Player, and DivX Player won't play most avi's anymore on my computer

what should I do? I have system restored, unistalled, reinstalled, upgraded all three of them and even reinstalled XP. I later bought nero showtime and it plays all files. so what could be the problem? any info or ideas?

o yea when i try to play them in wmp and real it closes(crashes). when i play it in divx i get a error.

some of the nero stuff can mess up the way your computer interacts with other programs. uninstall it and do a barebones install, then run a repair on wmp
