While microsoft's products may have seemed state of the art wonderful 15 years ago, there are all these things like the secret back doors in windows, that enable hackers to waste millions of hours of our time with things like spam, pop-ups, spyware, etc. that have normal people sitting there waiting for their computer to grant our wishes, while wishing they were a nerd who knew how to fix their own computer, so it would do what we want it to do.
I would think that by 2010 we would have the technology that would enable non-nerds to build a computer that was not in frequent need of assisitance from the geek squad. It would just do what we wanted it to do, and be ready for the next job.
