Why are people against gay marriage?

I think that people should love whom they want to love, and marry whom they want to marry.
Why is it that the opinionated stupid assholes get to choose how gay people live their lives.
what kind of people do that?!
    why do people do that?!

I am not gay, but I have two gay uncles, and quite few friends of mine happen to be bisexual.

What they REALLY are against are gays. They just don't have the backbone to admit it.

    Because.......the Bible says it's wrong!!! >OOO
And, and, and, marriage is defined as a union between a man and a woman (nevermind how many things have been re-defined in the past).
And... gay people will turn their kids gay.
    And... and.. and... -babble-
    Aren't my reasons awesome?! >O

    Yeah....
Usually they're either homophobes, or suppressed homosexuals.

Civil unions would be awesome if they gave us all the rights that marriage does, but they don't. What we should be fighting for is getting all the rights that come with marriage in a civil union, but... we're doing it backwards. Okay. 8D

"This is a rather flawed argument.

If people should be able who they want to marry, then necrophiliacs could marry a corpse, a zoophile could marry a dog, a pedophile could marry a child and a man could marry his sister.

I appreciate that people want to fight for gay rights but using an argument that makes no sense doesn't help anything.

Marriage has always been a religious institution. Why should homosexuals be able to stomp all over the rights of one group in order to get rights for themselves? Homosexuals should be happy with civil unions, because gay marriage is unfair to a large number of religious people."

Let's talk about the flaws in this argument. Marriage is an institution that requires consent, meaning that corpses, dogs, and children (without consent of parents) can't get married.
As for the incestuous argument, gay sex does not make hideously deformed babies that don't survive for more than 10 minutes like incest does.

As for the religious institution thing, marriage has been around way longer than Christianity, so it should not be labeled as a Christian institution.
Also, we are not stomping on the rights of Christians anyway. We are stomping on their intolerance and denial of our rights.
As for the unfair to religious people part, interracial marriage was very wrong in Christian eyes until after it was legal. This is how gay marriage will work with the Netherlands as an example.
And you're wrong about the flawed argument can't help part. Flawed arguments can help the cause, but only when they're against the cause. The cause currently being gay marriage.
