how do you unlock a blackberry pearl?

A blackberry Pearl.
I got my blackberry pearl for christmas 2006 right when they first came out. And I am still having troubles unlocking it. I have tried contacting T mobile but they always give me the run around. I will try contacting them again..but does anyone have any shortcuts??
PS I am going to be traveling overseas for a few months for a trip and I wanted to use my blackberry with a local sim card...
