The woodworking students of Joe Harmon Design and North Carolina State University have been working in a flurry to finish up the radical wooden supercar
we told you about months ago , named the Splinter. Made of wood, woven and then overlaid with resin, the Splinter now has a body that was manufactured in a way similar to that used to build with both fiberglass and carbon-fiber.
While the exterior is simply dazzling, the interior is not to be ignored as well. The hand-crafted steering wheel is simply amazing. The seats seem to have material stolen from oriental chairs.
While the project started earlier this year the Splinter team has been in a sudden rush to prepare the car for the International Woodworking Fair. The car itself is built around a central rigid tube section with suspension, power train, and various other bits scrounged from a C4 Corvette and hand fabricated wood components bolted to it. The Joe Harmon Design team hopes to have Splinter on the road with a target weight of 2500 pounds and 600 horsepower.
