i really hate nextel phones! i want to get a new phone but i dont want to switch providers...can i switch out my sim card? if not then what phones can i put my sim card in?

I have a 2 year verizon wireless contract. its not up for over a year
yet. Im sick of my phone and was thinkin about buying a different one on ebay.. Will that work even though my contract is not up? I was thinking if i get a different one and call verizon they can...
