Go into Network Places and make sure under Properties of connections you see that it is under LAN

I also use Firefox because internet explorer just gets swarmed with problems. Try clearing out your temp files and running Disc Cleanup

There are some routers that will connect the 2nd computer through a USB cable

Beware, I used Torrent Spy one time and it loaded a very nasty virus on my system.
