Why won't Dish Network DVR record the whole program?

My Dish Network DVR will sometimes only record a couple of minutes,or half, ect, of a show. It's not a live show,or a sporting event, it's a show that is in the guide and I set up the recording from there, yet it will not record the show in it's entirety or even close. What can be done to fix this?

If you scheduled a recording, say at 6:00 pm and you started a new recording , say at 5:30, it will record one program 5:30-6:00 then switch to the other recording.

If you started a recording, say at 4:30 pm, you have only one tuner, and you want to watch another show at 4:40, then it will stop recording and switch to live TV. It should give you a warning though...

If that's not the case: Call Dish and ask for a replacement. It should not do it.

When you set up a recording, look on the bottom left of that guide. It has times for when it will record.
The default is 3 mins. before the show starts and 3 mins. after it ends.
You can go into options and extend the time but most of the time that will not work if something runs late like a football game or a race.

If you only have the one dvr that doesn't allow you to record on tv 1 and tv 2., and you are recording, everytime you change channels you should get a warning on stating if you push yes you will stop recording the selected show.
