Problem with Samsung R20 laptop. Numlock stays on permanently.?

    Hi,

My sister is having a problem with her Samsung R20 laptop. The numlock is permanently on, whether the key is pressed or not. She has restored the laptop using the backup disk that came with it, and has updated all of the keyboard drivers. This problem is making the laptop almost useless, as all keys that relate to the numeric keypad are coming up as numbers and symbols and never as the required letters.
The laptop is only two months out of warranty, which means obviously the shop will not replace it, but it also means that it's only 14 months old and shouldn't have any major problems this early in it's life !

Has anybody else had this problem ? Is it a software issue that can be fixed ? If so, any ideas are welcome !

press the function key with the numlock key or use the on screen keyboard to disable it its in the start menu under programs / accesories/ and accessibility options.. or something like that on the end its different for vista/xp but same location in that folder there is the on screen keyboard with the full keyboard... if that doesnt work.. try and get an out of warranty fix for it..

    2 potential ways to fix.

When the computer starts to boot up, go into the BIOS and see if there is a setting that keeps the NUMLOCK set to ON.

if that doesnt work, you may want to try pulling the keyboard out and seeing if there is dirt or soething blocking the key from hitting the terminal. Lifting the keyboard out is usually pretty easy, and you can tap / shake it a bit to loosen up whatever might be cuaght in there. then rest it and start back up.

    Good luck. Hope that helps
