How do I use my Sprint Samsung instinct as a modem?

On both my XP and Vista computers I can't figure out how to get internet connectivity through my Instinct despite reading many reviews saying that it can happen, I can't find it on Google either.

Please don't tell me to go to http://www.Instinct-Samsung.com, there are thousands of threads and no quick search.

I did install the software that came on the included disk.

I've figured out that if you remove the micro SD card then the computer sees it as a modem, but I can't get it to connect.
