My samsung compact theatre 27 inch has no color.?

The tv is about 10 years old and until today it worked fantastic. I turned it on and instantly there was no color, but my PIP is in color though and when i try to switch back and forth between PIP and regular screen it stays black and white and the color stays in the picture in picture screen.Does any one have a clue as to why it's doing this and roughly what It will cost to fix or if I can fix it myself.I do have an electronice background it's just that I've never seen this before.
Thanks for all the help people I really appreciate it.

The signal is coming direct from the cable wire plugged into the back of the tv.I don't have box,vcr or anything hooked up to the tv.

All I can tell you it has something to do with the input signal. When you use the PIP feature, it's getting an input from a second source (probably your VCR) and since the color is fine there, it must be the source. I would check the cables between your cable box and tv to make sure they are tight. If that doesn't do it, you probably need a new box.
