How do you delete pre-installed apps on the Samsung Interpret (Virgin Mobile)?

I have a bunch of applications on this cellphone that I never use, such as Google Maps. I want to delete them, but I don't know how. I know how to delete applications that I installed, but it doesn't seem to let me delete applications that are pre-installed.

Okay, so I can't delete unless I "root" it. How do I "root" my phone? And what is "rooting"?

Unless you root your phone, you will NOT be deleting anything that came pre-installed on the phone.

Once you root it, you will be able to un-install any apps that are not needed for the phone to function properly.
