Do I need to get an unlocked phone if the phone I'm buying is for my cellular service?

My samsung phone just recently started to act really strange. I can't hear anyone on it when they call me or when I call them. The display sometimes comes up white when I close it or sometimes doesn't come up at all.My parents are buying me another phone. I am part of AT&T and I was going to buy a phone off of eBay, the Nokia 6126. I need to know if I need to buy an unlocked version of the phone or not. The phone that I mentioned is available in my service. So do i need to buy an unlocked Nokia 6126 even though it's available in my service?

unlocked simply means that phone can be activated by any carrier with compatable technology . so as lock as the unlocked phone is from a carrier with gsm (t-mobile, att, ect... ) it should work with att.. but call them first and verify that the phone you get will work.
