Anyone have the new iPhone and use Rogers??

Hi, I'm debating if I should buy the new 3G iPhone. I live in the basement, and I have tried many phones and carriers including Telus, Virgin, etc but they all give me very bad reception in my basement. Rogers on the other hand (paired with the Blackberry 8800 I currently have) give me excellent reception for the most part. My question is to all 3G iPhone users on the Rogers network..

1) How is the reception? I don't want to buy the phone and NOT have it work in the basement...
2) I understand the problem lies with the 3G network? When reception is bad, does the EDGE network work... or does the ability to make and recieve calls totally not work? In the basement I'm fine with EDGE, I don't use the web browser, I use that when I am outside, on the go.
3) How is the battery life? What happens when the battery dies out (like it does on the iPods so much).

Thanks for your time!
Also, 4) If i get the 8 gb iPhone, how much FREE space do I have for my mp3's? How much space do the default applications that come with the iPhone take up?
