3G LG Xenon from Rogers?

I want to get it and the price is $89.99 with a 3 year term. What does a 3 year term mean exactly? And it's $279.99, so I was just thinking to pay the $279.99 then get the $50/month+$6.95/month System Access fee student plan, but that would be really expensive, wouldnt it?

Anyone got any tips?
