Why is everyone so caught up with religion?

Okay, I might sound a little hippy or something. But-

Why is everyone so hung up on religion? I am almost 14. I have read so many things, fights even, about religion. But I don't understand why we always have to get into fights, arguements or anything about religion.

Honestly, I have no idea what I believe. I believe in a higher power, as for god himself... ehh, IDK. I believe in Jesus, because there is actual documents of him. I believe and don't believe in a lot of things.

But the thing I DO agree with, is that everyone should just chill!

If there is a god, or there is a whoever you believe in, then do you think they would want us to fight about all of this?

I don't go to church, and I have heard people say things about going to hell over that. But I don't get it, if I do not believe what someone else believes, than why do they have to push their beliefs onto me?

We've gotten into wars over this.

I think it's stupid. My question?

Why do we all have to be soooo caught up with religion?!?

To put it quite simply, it's because many people consider it to literally be a matter of life and death.

Jesus claimed to be the son of God, and to be the only route to the Father and to eternal life. Note the key word there-- only. I've got a very hippy-like attitude myself, and I've always been very much of the mindset that people can believe what they like, and there are different truths for different people... relativism. Relativism is very "hippy" because then everybody is happy... nobody is wrong, we're all correct!

But as a Christian, and as a person who believes Jesus was real and the Messiah, I have had to come to terms with the fact that anyone who does not surrender their lives to Jesus and accept his forgiveness will NOT inherit eternal life.

It's a very uncomfortable claim to make. You don't know how badly I wish everyone could be correct, no matter their beliefs. My entire family is non-Christian, and it breaks my heart to think of their potential fate. But fact is fact... I am convinced that Jesus existed, and that he was, indeed, who he claimed to be. And the fact of the matter is that he personally said he is the ONLY true path to salvation.

It sucks that those who believe in Christ are not setting an example of who Christ really is, this goes to prove that christians are not perfect either. God tells us not to provoke others to anger. So just ignore the bad, but except the good from those who are only doing what they believe is good.

For years, my fellow atheists and I have lived under the cruel thumb of the christian majority. With the rapid expansion of the internet and exchange of ideas we have discovered that we are not alone. We want our voices to be heard, voices that have been brutally silenced for 2000 years. The revolution to religious freedom is beginning and hopefully it will cascade into a revolt against institutionalized religion around the world. It would be the sweetest day of my life to see all the churches and temples destroyed because no one believed in an all powerful wizard. Empty buildings to be bulldozed.

people do not go to war over religion. religion is concerned with spiritual matters. people go to war over earthly matters; power, land money, resources, history, technology, politics, ego, things like that. often they try to blame religion, or seek justification in religion, but do not be deceived, the last thing a soldier in the field or a general in his war room is thinking about is his own or anyone else's spiritual salvation and immortal soul.
