    * year old that screams loud and high piched?

My 8 year old has always and still does sream so lound and high piched when she dosen't get her own way. She sounds like someone is hurting her, which they are not. I have asked for help from our health visitor but they don't seem to care. My question is: is anyone else going through this and what do you do? My child is perfect at school and at others houses it's just at home, i also have other children who do not do this so it can't be my parenting. I am basically just looking for ideas on how to stop bad screaming when i say NO to an ice lolly or a dvd at night etc....

Don't give in!! don't give them attention for it,, remember even negative attention is still attention. I just hope you are giving lots of love and good attention when deserved.

Your poor ears that must be stressful.there really is only one thing you can do amd that's ignore it.i know that won't be easy but say no once explain clearly why not and ignore just get on with what you are doing.she can't scream forever remember that and don't give in no matter what.if she's learned this behaviour gets her what she wants then she is using it to control you and is a habit.be consistent with the explaining once amd ignoring don't give in not even on one occasion.when she quits screaming pay her attention and start chatting so she knows positive attention only comes when there is no screaming but don't cave in to any demands.if she goes a full day without screaming then she gets a small treat an extra story or whatever.praise her well when she is behaving.hang in there it will be hard but she will lessen her screaming when she realises it gets her nowhere.x

Your daughter is still screaming because she has found that it works. I know it will be hard but just ignore her when she starts screaming - walk away into another room, just don't give in to her demands.
