Thread: why is it okay for a parent to scream and yell at a child?

-well teenager- who makes straight A's, has already been accepted by two colleges, is getting their college paid for by scholarships to the point of mentally breaking down that teen but not only that...the parent hits them and if the teen locks the door to get away from the parent the parent calls the cops and the cops then yell at the teen?

I don't understand why that's allowed

similar situation. I know the feeling. The police are old friends now *smiles grimly* it's not cool. Get them off your back. Tell the police about child abuse(I have been through this, trust me)I hope you get into a good college just try to get out, move out. You must be a legal adult by now.

Unfortunately yes, a parent can yell and screem at you even when you're in your 20's! Right now they still see you as their 'child' and are trying to still treat you as one. You are growing though and have new ideas and you are becomming independant. Soon, within the next few years there will be a moment with you and your family where they will realize, that you are an adult- you make your own choices and you do your own things. After that, they'll give you advice but they will know that you can choose to take it or do your own thing.

I was in the same situation. I'm having a problem with my family. Try to love them and get through it or else you'll end up hating them and holding a grudge and you'll miss what u had.. TRUST ME. Do u hate them? IF u honestly hate them and want top seriously get away, call an abuse line or something but i don't recommend that. Tell ur paretns how u feel. I know it will be hard. But it will be better. Thats the mistake I made.

yelling is never the best communication. i have little nephews and their mother screams at them almost every day... i have tried to talk to her about correcting them instead of letting herself get to the point of frustration that she frightens them to tears... teenagers are a different age group but again yelling is not the best communication. are your parents talking with you and you become adamant... why are they yelling at you??? It does not seem right to have the cops be yelling at you either

that is in no way shape or form right at all..

need a little more info as to why the parents are yelling...dont say "i didnt do nothing" because u did something, not that its bad but something is causing by your actions. we need to know this to establish if its justified.
